Questions
What does "ASP suspended" mean?
Street cleaning won't happen, so you don't have to move your car for the street cleaning signs (the ones with the broom). Every other sign still applies, like No Standing, bus stops, hydrants and meters, unless it's a major legal holiday.
When is alternate side parking suspended?
On about 40 legal and religious holidays a year, which the city publishes in advance, and on short notice for snow, storms and emergencies. It's never in effect on Sundays.
Are parking meters in effect when ASP is suspended?
Usually yes. Meters are only suspended on major legal holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Meters are never in effect on Sundays.
How much is an alternate side parking ticket?
$65 in Manhattan at or below 96th Street and $45 everywhere else in the city.
Do I have to stay out the whole posted time?
Yes. The rule applies for the full window on the sign, even after the sweeper has gone by.
Is there an app for alternate side parking in NYC?
Streetside Parking is built for it. It saves your spot when you get out of the car, shows the street cleaning time for your side of the block, counts down on a widget, and alerts you when ASP is suspended. It's coming soon to iPhone.
